RTC - Rehab Technology Center

Custom Seating and Wheelchair Modifications

The Rehab Technology Center (RTC) consists of an expert staff of experienced seating clinicians, therapists, and technical support personnel who work with clients, families, community therapists, physicians and care givers to provide the following:

  • Multidisciplinary seating and mobility assessments for clients with simple to very complex positioning and functional needs
  • Custom designed and fitted seating systems
  • Custom wheelchair modifications
  • Postural support
  • Minimize the effects of abnormal tone and reflex patterns
  • Maximize upper extremity function
  • Inhibit the occurrence of skeletal deformities and decubitus ulcers
  • Improve respiratory and digestive functions
  • Enhance independence and opportunities for social and recreational activities
  • Mobile outreach seating clinics throughout the greater Bay Area and parts of California

Our custom seating line includes orthopedically contoured seat systems, tissue trauma prevention (seat) seating, hybrid seating systems combining components from multiple manufacturers, and custom molded seating systems. (The seating systems are designed with the individual to meet the needs of the individual.) We utilize a multidisciplinary process including individuals with disabilities, their parents and other family members as the most important members of the assessment team.

The Rehab Technology Center (RTC) began as a department of the Rehabilitation Engineering Center of Packard's Children Hospital at Stanford in 1974. The Seating and Mobility Department became a part of Rehab Specialists in March of 2001 and moved to our Mountain View location in October. The partnership of the Rehab Technology Center and Rehab Specialists has increased our ability to provide a complete seating and mobility service line including wheelchair service and repairs. We are taking our years of experience and our deep commitment to serving the needs of clients and their caregivers forward into our new organization.
